Black and white drawings

I began this brief by drawing people having conversations, including quick three second drawings and ‘not looking at the page’ drawings.  However these images were very linear and didn’t have any depth. I have never experimented with using only block black ink to add shadows before so i had no idea if this style would suit me.  I loosely drew the facial details from photographs of people in the process of talking, and deliberately allowed the characters to have slightly exaggerated features so they are more interesting to look at .  Then using a brush pen I filled in the shadows, taking care not too add to much black.  I was pleased with the results mainly because they were such a surprise. Some of the images were hard to produce because the original photos didn’t have a lot of shadows and I had to exaggerate or guess where the shadows should be. I plan to further develop these images, perhaps screen printing them or scanning them into photo-shop.
